FAQs
What age can my child start playing rugby?
Children can start from age 5 (school year Reception/Year 1) in our U6 Minis section – and judging by our veterans, you can still be playing at 60+ if you really love the game!
Do I need any experience to join?
Not at all! We welcome total beginners and returning players alike.
Is rugby just for boys? Can girls and women play too?
Absolutely not – rugby is for everyone!
Grove RFC is proud to run mixed Minis teams up to U11 where boys and girls play together, and dedicated girls’ and women’s teams from age 12 upwards.
Women’s and girls’ rugby is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK, and our Ladies Team welcomes newcomers of all ages and experience levels.
We believe rugby’s values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship apply equally to everyone — on and off the pitch.
What do I need to bring?
Trainers or boots with safe studs, comfortable sportswear, and a water bottle. Club shirts are provided upon registration, and extra kit is available in our online shop.
Is rugby safe for young players?
Yes – we follow RFU Age Grade Rugby guidelines, introducing contact gradually and ensuring all coaches are DBS checked and trained.
Where do you train?
At Grove RFC, Recreation Lane, Grove, Wantage OX12 0FL.
