What is Minis Rugby?
Minis rugby is the entry point for boys and girls aged 5–12, School years Reception/Year 1 through to Year 7. At Grove RFC, we follow the RFU Age Grade Rugby pathway, introducing skills gradually in a safe, fun environment.

U6–U8: Tag rugby only (non-contact, fun games, teamwork)
U9–U12: Contact introduced step by step (tackling, scrums, lineouts)

Children learn movement, balance, coordination and confidence

When & Where Does Minis Rugby Happen?

U6 to U11 Every Sunday morning at Grove RFC, Cane Lane, Grove, Wantage OX12 0FL
U12 Every Friday Evening 6-7PM
Matches and festivals across Oxfordshire, including our own Grove RFC Minis Festival each October with over 100 teams

What Do Children Need to Play?

Trainers or boots with safe studs
Comfy sports kit (no hoods)
Water bottle
Gumshield required from U9 upwards
Club shirt provided on registration, extras from our Online Club Shop

Can Girls Join Too?
Yes! Boys and girls play together through to U11. From U12 onwards, Grove RFC partners with local clubs to ensure girls continue with competitive, fulfilling rugby opportunities.

Is Rugby Safe for Young Children?
Yes — all sessions follow RFU guidelines. Tackling is only introduced from U9, and always in a carefully coached, supportive way.
