Grove were well beaten by a strong discliplined Wootton Bassett side on Saturday. Although Grove took the lead through a Roger Sevier penalty it was the home side that dominated virtually all facets of this game. In the first half their big and very strong forwards continually drove into Grove and then in the second half they also opened up with their backs who found it all too easy to run through the Grove defences. At half time, although behind, it looked like Grove had a chance given they turned aroud to have sun, wind and slope in their favour but it was not to be. In the end Bassett ran in 8 trys with 3 being converted and added two penalties to amass a score of 52 points. In reply Grove scored 30 points though trys from Jimmy Wallbridge, Harry Carr and Jonny Simmonds. Roger Sevier converted all three trys from the touchline and added two penalties to complete a 100% kicking performance while Nick Sevier added a drop goal.
