Grove's 2nd team embarked on a journey to Bicester for their third game of the season, aiming to extend their winning streak. Bicester posed a tough challenge, with their coach retiring over the weekend and their players eager to put on a performance in his honor.
The match kicked off with Grove dominating Bicester's 22 for a solid 10 minutes before prop Tom Fearn powered through to score the first points of the game. However, the momentum swung in Bicester's favor, with their pack exerting pressure that lured Grove players in, creating space on the wings and resulting in a well-executed try for Bicester. The score stood at 5-5 after 17 minutes.
Grove, following the kick-off, once again applied pressure, spending 10 minutes in Bicester's half, but they eventually found themselves pushed back into their own territory. During a lineout that Grove managed to steal the ball from, some direct runs opened up a gap on the wing for Will Nicol, who showcased his speed and scored in the corner. However, Grove's organization began to unravel, providing Bicester with an opportunity to construct an attack. Five minutes before the first half ended, Bicester scored and converted a try, making the halftime score Bicester 12 – 10 Grove.
At halftime, Grove made three changes to inject fresh energy onto the field, making adjustments in the front row and among the backs. Within two minutes, Grove broke through the defense, and Tom Wilson crossed the line, scoring Grove's third try. Grove then made another substitution and reorganized their pack, which led to mounting pressure. In the 59th minute, Stewart Sherwood made an impressive 18-meter run, crashing through to place the ball down, and James Slatter converted the try. Over the following 10 minutes, Grove made two more changes, and with their full bench on the field, they tightened the screws, building more pressure. A kick chase by captain Wayne Ball resulted in a try under the posts, and Ali McCarthy converted it.
With 10 minutes left in the game, Bicester rallied and pushed Grove hard. After sustained pressure, Bicester scored in the 78th minute, with the conversion finding its mark. However, it was too late to worry Grove, who emerged victorious by a 10-point margin.
The final score was Bicester 19 – 29 Grove, and Stewart Sherwood was named the Man of the Match.
