This week, Grove 2nd faced off against Chinnor 4th, known as the "wild boys." Eager to maintain their winning streak from two weeks ago, the team had been preparing diligently, but last-minute call-ups to the 1st team resulted in some player shuffling and new positions. This created some nervousness on the sideline, but on the field, Grove took the lead in possession and territory. Captain Wayne Ball scored first, followed by newcomer Tom Wilson, who ran an excellent line and scored with a successful conversion by Sam Christensen.
However, Grove momentarily lost focus, and Chinnor seized the opportunity to score two tries, one of which was converted. Fortunately, halftime arrived, offering a chance for a team talk and regrouping.
The second half began with intense tackles from both teams, prompting Grove to make a prop change. A powerful scrum led to Tom Wilson breaking two tackles and scoring his second try, with another successful conversion by S. Christensen. Grove then dominated in Chinnor's 22, opting for a scrum instead of a penalty, and Wayne Ball crossed the line to secure the bonus point, with Sam Christensen making the conversion.
This bolstered Grove's determination, and even club legend Ady Amies briefly joined the action, making a powerful run toward the try line, ultimately setting up Captain Ball for his hat-trick. The final score was Grove II 31-12 Chinnor IV.
