Windsor Rugby 36 vs 27 Grove RFC
This weekend Grove travelled to Windsor in game week 2. After the previous weeks results, one would have thought Grove would have had the momentum, but Windsor had other ideas.
On what was the hottest day of the year, it was always going to be a gruelling affair.
It was Grove who had early success with a perfectly timed line break from Rob Tyreman, which was destined for a try, but only to be called back as a forward pass.
Grove continued the attack, but due to miss firing at the line-out, Windsor were able to gain confidence, which was imperative in this hot weather. Windsor managed to get two quick scores which put Grove on the back foot. The 2nd try resulted in a yellow card for Grove, which put even more pressure on the travelling side. For the rest of the half, it was damage limitation for Grove. The Half ended 24-0 to the hosts.
After the break there was a clear change in Grove’s approach to the game. However, against the run of play Windsor managed to get their 5th try of the game. 31-0.
Grove rallied back, and managed to gain some control. They were finally playing the rugby that was expected from the travelling supporters.
Both teams exchanged tries, to make the game 36-5. From there it was all Grove. Grove were able to keep the ball build some phases and play some rugby , this pressure resulted in 4 consecutive tries without response. To make it 36-27. The come back felt possible.
With 5 minutes to go, there was a key moment when Grove broke through, but the final pass was missing, for what have been a certain try. This all but ended any hoped of a famous come back.
Windsor were able to see out the win, in a thrilling encounter.

Grove welcome Milton Keynes for the first home game of the season next weekend, in what is expected to be another close game, after MK’s commanding win against Wildboys this weekend.
Grove 2nd XV are also at home, for their first game of the season as they host Gosford All Blacks 2nds.
