Grove RFC, based in Grove near Wantage in South Oxfordshire, is proud to recognise the Grove and Faringdon Ladies as February’s Team of the Month. Women’s rugby at the club continues to grow across Grove, Wantage and the wider Vale of White Horse, and this group represents everything that community rugby stands for.

Growth in Women’s Rugby at Grove RFC

The Grove and Faringdon Ladies have more than doubled their playing squad over the past year. That growth has not happened by chance. It reflects a welcoming culture, consistent coaching and a strong sense of belonging that has encouraged new players to step forward and give rugby a try.

Week by week, numbers at training have increased. With that growth has come improved skills, stronger match performances and rising confidence across the squad. Players of all experience levels have contributed, from those new to contact rugby through to more experienced leaders within the group.

Festival Success and Building Momentum

In November, the Ladies secured victory at a festival against fellow Inner Warrior teams. It was a milestone moment that showed how far the group had come in a short period of time. Since then, performances have continued to improve, with teamwork, communication and attacking intent becoming clear strengths.

The development of women’s rugby at Grove RFC is not only about results. It is about opportunity, progression and creating a sustainable pathway for female players in South Oxfordshire.

The success of the Ladies also plays an important role in the wider club structure. As Grove RFC continues to develop girls rugby, having a visible and thriving women’s team provides a clear pathway from minis and juniors into adult rugby.

Women’s rugby at Grove RFC is open to players of all abilities, whether you are returning to the game or completely new to rugby. Training takes place weekly in Grove and new players from Wantage, Didcot, Abingdon and surrounding villages are always welcome.
