Grove Ladies 19 – High Wycombe 32
The ladies’ first match of the season took place at home on a beautiful sunny afternoon. There was a great amount of support from the club and a good crowd cheered the ladies from the sidelines.
It was an unfortunate start with High Wycombe scoring a try within the first minute of the game, soon followed by another. They were unable to convert either so did not take an insurmountable lead.
Izzy Clark scored two tries, Olivia (Woof) Walker scored our third and Sarah Taws made two conversions. At one point Grove was only one point away with the score at 19 – 20. Grove fought and played hard but ultimately High Wycombe were just too strong for us although, it is fair to note, that they have already played two matches this season.
The team is hugely grateful to the players who came back for the weekend to play for us from various points around the country plus the ladies from Oxford Brookes who joined our team for the match to ensure we could field a team.
All in all it was a very positive experience and gives the team a good idea of our strengths and weaknesses. Onward and upwards to the next match.
