Grove (62) vs. Tadley (7)
Grove continue their quest for promotion with a 9 try demolition of Tadley.
Tadley arrived at Grove with a team somewhat depleted by injuries but nevertheless up for the contest. Despite early Tadley territorial advantage it was Grove who struck first when left wing Guy Nicholl pounced for the first of what was to become a personal five try blitz, full back Roger Sevier's conversion giving Grove a 7 : 0 lead after 5 minutes. Two minutes later Nicholl was yellow carded for an alleged tip tackle. No more trys were immediately forthcoming but after 13 minutes Sevier converted a penalty to increase Grove's lead to 10 : 0. Despite strong Tadley attacks, fly half Dave Maryon for Grove came to the rescue time and time again with some terrific long touch finding kicks. Flanker Carl Alder was then substituted by Matt Young following the former's receipt of a facial injury. With 30 minutes gone centre Nick Sevier burst through to score between the posts, converted by brother Roger for 17 : 0. Great charging work by both hooker Steve Dixey and prop Tim Lane then lead to the former touching down for another converted try and Grove were now clear at 24 : 0. The bonus point try came when No. 8 Ben Nicholl crashed over for try number four and Sevier's conversion put Grove into an unassailable 31 : 0 lead. Unsatisfied Guy Nicholl then went over for his second of the day and the conversion from Sevier produced a 38 : 0 half time score.
Grove started the second half smartly when scrum half Owen Gustafson's quickly taken tap penalty saw the ever alert Guy Nicholl pounce for his hat trick try, again converted by Sevier for 45 : 0. Five minutes later Nicholl was in again for Grove's sixth try but this went unconverted for 50 : 0. Grove then took their foot of the peddle and started to play Tadley's game rather than their own and suddenly an interception by Tadley's full back Gareth Reading lead to him scoring a fine individual try after running the full length of the field. This was converted to make the score 50 : 7. Re-awoken, Grove hit back, again from Guy Nicholl when he completed his 5 try haul and put Grove up 55 : 7. Finally, after what had been a relatively poor second half by Grove, replacement prop Martyn Walsh crashed over and Sevier's conversion brought the game to a close at 62 : 7. Just before the end a Tadley player was yellow carded for what also appeared to be a tip tackle.
Man of the Match for Grove (surprise, surprise) was Guy Nicholl.
