Betjeman boys drop a bomb on Slough!
Grove blitzed basement boys Slough on Saturday with a fine bonus point win which takes them back to the top of the league.
Grove went 0 : 3 ahead from full back Roger Sevier's penalty after 9 minutes but then tried to be too clever and got themselves into trouble, conceding a penalty to their hosts, which took the score to 3 : 3. The visitors regained the lead after 19 minutes with a try from centre Nick Sevier, converted by brother Roger for 3 : 10. This was followed five minutes later by a try from wing Guy Nicholl, also converted from the touchline for 3 : 17. Four minutes later fly half Dave Maryon touched down and with the successful conversion the score moved to 3 : 24. Within two minutes Nick Sevier scored his second try of the day for the bonus point, also converted from the touchline by his brother for 3 : 31. Nevetheless it was Grove who went further ahead when scrum half Owen Gustafson went over for another good try in the corner, the difficult conversion again being slotted for 3 : 64. Paul Miles second try and Roger Sevier's ninth conversion then took the score to 3 : 71. Nearing the end of the game Grove began showing some signs of complacency and Slough took full advantage, their forwards forcing their way over for a well earned and very well deserved try which was also converted to take the score to 10 : 71. Nevertheless Grove regrouped and with one final attack, centre Joe Bellinger forced his way through for a final try and the game ended at 10 : 76.
