Grove 2nds vs. Aldermaston at Grove (29/09/07)

Grove 2nds returned to winning ways following their 1 point defeat the previous week.

In a well fought game the Grove forwards dominated throughout, winning many scrummages 'against the head'. Grove's man of the match, hooker Shaun Sherwood was outstanding and Aldermaston, for all their efforts, could not break down Grove's dominance, although they did score first with an unconverted try against the run of play. This spurred Grove on to score a run of 20 unanswered points with tries from Jason Major, Sam Murby, Ben Law and Carl Alder, although all of the conversions were missed. Aldermaston then went through a purple patch where they managed to win some ball and scored a converted try to bring the score back to 20 – 12. From the restart Grove's forwards yet again turned over Aldermaston ball and great hands by ageing scrum half Jon North enabled Ben Law to set off on a mazy run, smashing his way through five tackles with massive hand offs to finally give the ball to winger Phil Davies who scored Grove's last, but finally converted try by James Bryan. Other performances of note were from Guy Nicholl, who has made a real impact in this his first season of senior rugby, and Ashley Lane in his best game for Grove to date.
