Grove continued their winning ways on Saturday beating lowly Amersham and Chiltern at Amersham. Initially the game seemed to be in stalemate with both sides unable to breach the others defences. It took 28 minutes before the breakthrough came and it was then Grove who took a 5 point lead with an unconverted pushover try in the corner from prop Richard Keen. After another 5 minutes wing Roger Sevier put Grove 0 : 8 ahead with a penalty kick and this became the half time score.
Grove continued to dominate and it wasn't long into the 2nd half before a fine backs move lead to full back Dave Maryon scoring a fine but again unconverted try to put Grove into a commanding 0 : 13 lead. A clever kick ahead by Dave Maryon at the end of another good backs move lead to flanker Ben Nicholl storming over for a great try between the posts which Roger Sevier converted to put Grove out of sight at 0 : 20. Finally with three quarters of the match over Amersham got on the score sheet when their scrum half touched down for a converted try after a big forwards push up the field. It was not long however before Grove increased their lead when Roger Sevier went over for an unconverted try in the corner after the ball had been spun through all of the backs hands. Grove were now 7 : 25 in front. Sevier was then unlucky when he was tackled without the ball after chipping over the full back's head. From the resulting penalty lock Price for Grove crashed over to put Grove 7 : 32 ahead following Sevier's conversion. With less than 10 minutes to go Ben Nicholl scored the best try of the match when he took off on a terrific angled run to beat virtually all of the opposition backs which Sevier converted to take the score to 7 : 39. At the death Grove now with their foot of the pedal let Amersham through to make the final score 14 : 39.
