Results from the 3 teams fixtures 08/09/18

First weekend of rugby with some real positives:

3rd XV team returned to league rugby at Home to a strong Abingdon 2nd Team with Chris McCarthy stepping up to ref the game after the allocated referee was unavailable. Although the boys lost 0-54 getting this team back playing competitive rugby has been a key focus for the club this season and we are sure the results will come as we get more players back involved in playing and build the strength of the squad. (All new or old players welcome).

2nd XV started their campaign in the BBO league 2 after winning promotion last season and travelled to Aylesbury they were narrowly beaten 17-13 but picked up a bonus point which are always important in what will be a competitive league this season. There are some very exciting players in this team that will be pushing for 1st XV places as the season progresses.

1st XV had a long journey down to North Dorset to play their first league fixture in Southern Counties South, the 2.5 hr coach journey was rewarded with 20-29 win with an entertaining game and some good rugby played by both sides. Grove looked the better side for large parts of the game but the host team certainly made it a tough encounter. The coach journey back seemed a lot faster but this was probably due to the fun and games on board and the start of the Grove RFC choir ??

Well done to all who helped make these games happen either as a player/ coach team manager/ kitchen ladies or one of the volunteers who work very hard to make Grove RFC the special club that it is.

If anyone would like to get involved in the club please let us know cheers Nigel
