Social Membership for Parents
For the 2017/18 season, Mini and Junior player Memberships, include one Membership for a parent. This allows access to the Club’s bar and facilities and to Youth section social events. Social Members are also entitled to apply got International Tickets at Club prices.
Entry to an age group is determined by the player’s age at midnight on 31st August for all age groups up to and including Colts. The appropriate age group applies for the whole season. For players born on or after 31/08/2005 (U12 or below), the Club requires that a parent or guardian accompanies the child at all times. For girls, the age groups are U13 (U11–U13), U15 (U14–U15) and U18 (U16–U18).
National registration with the Rugby Football Union (RFU Rugby First) is compulsory for all Mini and Junior players from U7 to U18 inclusive, including Girls. When a player joins a Club for the first time we require:
- Completed RFU registration form (available from the Club website).
- 2 passport-size photos with parent/guardian signature and player’s date of birth on the reverse.
Please be assured that information relating to young players is not released by the RFU to any other organisation for any purpose. The information is used to track players, and ensures they are not selected above or below their playing age, or play too much rugby. Please note that, under RFU regulations, youth players will not be eligible to play in matches unless coaches provide details of Rugby First registration including photographs.
- Registration needs to be completed by 3rd October 2017.
Training and matches
Training sessions and matches are held on Sundays.
- U7–U16: Training and home matches typically start between 10am and 10.30am (dependent on age group).
- Colts (U17/U18) and Girls U13/U15/U18: Training and home matches start 12pm–2pm.
- Mid-week training sessions may be arranged for Youth squads. Please check with relevant age group coaches.
- Away matches as advised.
Mini and Junior fixture lists are available from the website and are continually updated.
Refreshments are supplied to all players after home matches. Costs are covered by the registration fee.
Transport can normally be arranged for all players whose parents cannot travel on the day. Please make arrangements in advance with the age group Lead Coach or Team Manager.
Bad Weather and Cancellations
In the event of bad weather, please check the website before setting out to ensure that training or matches are going ahead. Coaches will try to send emails asap, in the event of cancellations.
Boots must have either a moulded rubber multi-stud sole or kite-marked, screw-in safety studs made of rubber or aluminium (not plastic). Rubber ‘blades’ are approved for use. The Club provides playing shirt on loan (Minis for the season, Juniors for matches). A mouth protector/gumshield is a must-have for all levels of rugby. The RFU advises parents to consult their dentist before buying a mouth protector for their child. Match officials have the right to bar players without mouth protection if they consider the player is at risk of injury. Shirts, socks, shorts and other kit are available from the Online Clubhouse Shop. Please remember to bring warm clothing and waterproof coats for your child.
Club Facilities and Social Event
The Club bar and facilities are available to all Members, including parents and guardians of Youth Members. A number of social events are organised throughout the year, both for fundraising and as social get-togethers. These events are advertised in the Club, on the website, and by email.
Spirit of the Game
GRFC’s Youth and Senior sections vigorously condemn foul or violent play and the verbal harassment of officials. Please give your full support to your child’s team, but remember that the opposition deserves recognition for their achievements as well. The referee is always right.
The Club has an established procedure for dealing with players or supporters reported by officials for breaches of the respective Codes of Conduct. This includes players or coaches dismissed by a referee before, during or after a match. Whilst such breaches are taken seriously, our procedures take full account of a player’s age and experience. The aim of any possible action against an individual is not to merely penalise, but to ensure we all learn from the incident.
GRFC operates safeguarding policies in line with the mandatory requirements of the RFU. The Club has appointed a Safeguarding Officer, who will be available to discuss any concerns felt by players or parents. All such discussions are of course completely confidential. All Coaches have completed a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Disclosure Form and received clearance from the RFU & DBS. The Safeguarding Officer is: Fee Sylvester.
Communicating with the Club
If you have any concerns or a grievance (other than Safeguarding), please talk to the age group coach in the first instance. Our policy is to ensure that rugby is a safe, fun activity enjoyed by all players, coaches and parents, whatever the weather. We have a duty to support all the coaches who give of their time without recompense to ensure players have the opportunity to participate in the game of rugby. We believe that early discussion solves most if not all problems efficiently.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Club, and the Club cannot run without them. If you are interested in volunteering your input will be more than welcome, whether you are interested in coaching, organising a social event, etc. — the amount of time you can commit is up to you. Please speak to your age group coach or a club official in the first instance, or email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
